Split Flap Display Widget

The Split Flap Display Widget mimics the retro mechanical displays found in train stations and airports.

A delightful, nostalgic widget that animates “flapping” characters when the text changes. It’s a fantastic way to display status messages, airport codes, or simple metrics with character.

  • Mechanical Animation: Each character card physically flips to the next letter.
  • Customizable Rows/Columns: Define how many lines and characters per line to display.
  • Automatic Padding: Text is automatically centered or padded to fit the grid.
  • Character Sets: Choose between Full Alphanumeric, Alpha only, or Numeric only to optimize flip speed.
  • Entity: Text-based sensor (e.g., sensor.now_playing, sensor.current_status).
  • Grid:
    • Chars Per Line: e.g., 10 for a short message.
    • Lines: Number of rows (1 for a ticker, 3+ for a board).
  • Speed: Adjust how fast the cards flip.
  • Colors: Customize the text color, background card color, and border.
  • Now Playing: Show “BEATLES - HEY JUDE” scrolling or flipping.
  • Status Board: “HOME: ARMED”, “GARAGE: OPEN”.
  • Retro Clock: Use a time sensor to create a flip clock.
